The 2008 MERLOT Volunteer of the Year Awards

The MERLOT Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes volunteers who serve as peer reviewers, faculty developers, and advocates for MERLOT. These individuals are not supported by their institution, yet perform at a commendable level in their service to MERLOT. Volunteers of the Year were nominated by MERLOT Editors and selected by the Project Directors’ Council.

This year’s awardees impressed the Project Directors with their dedication to MERLOT and its goals, their unquenchable energy in helping to further the efforts of their respective editorial boards, and their commitment to spreading the word about MERLOT. The Volunteer of the Year Award winners were honored with a ceremony at the 2008 MERLOT International Conference, held August 7-10 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The 2008 MERLOT Volunteer of the Year Award was given to:

Ingrid Ulstad, from University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire

Professor Ulstad served as Peer Reviewer for the MERLOT Business Editorial Board. The Editor of the Business Editorial Board had this to say about Professor Ulstad’s contributions:

“Ingrid has been a member of MERLOT since March 2003, having attended a MERLOT presentation at the North American Accounting Society in Chicago, IL. As a result of attending that conference, she contributed her Sweet Treats Corporation Simulation and signed on as a peer reviewer. Since that time Ingrid has gone beyond the call of duty in terms of the number of reviews she has completed. Her reviews are always submitted on time and reflect careful though with respect to MERLOT review criteria. She has also participated in 2 paper presentations and 1 panel presentation to build the MERLOT community.”

Professor Ulstad received an award and certificate from MERLOT Executive Director, Gerry Hanley, at the awards ceremony.

She also participated in a panel discussion entitled “Peer Reviewing for MERLOT – How You Can Get Involved.”
